West Brom boss Tony Mowbray insists the permanent transfer of Curtis Davies to Aston Villa will still go ahead despite the player's Achilles injury.
The defender will not play again this season after rupturing the tendon in Villa's draw at Arsenal but Mowbray told BBC WM the deal stays unaffected.

"Curtis becomes an Aston Villa player at the end of his loan and I'm sure an injury isn't going to curtail the deal.

"Villa see him as a big part of their future and I don't see any problems."

Colchester United have been boosted by the news that Karl Duguid's foot injury sustained in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves is not as serious as initially feared.
The U's captain was forced off after a heavy tackle by Michael Gray, but scans revealed no bones have been broken.

"It's all soft-tissue damage which means a lot shorter recovery time," physio Tony Flynn told Colchester United's official website.

"He is making good progress and we will have a better idea of recovery time."

Sheffield Wednesday have prolonged on-loan striker Enoch Showunmi's stay at Hillsborough for another month.
The Nigerian international joined the club in January from Bristol City and has impressed Owls boss Brian Laws enough to extend his stay in Yorkshire.

Meanwhile Wednesday's David McClements has joined non-league side Buxton on a month's loan deal.

The winger, who has made no first-team appearances this season, joins fellow Owl Jason Bradley at Silverlands.

Southampton have denied speculation they need an early settlement on the Theo Walcott deal with Arsenal to stave off administration.
Reports suggested their overdraft limit has been exceeded and the club is under pressure from their bank.

Chairman Leon Crouch said: "Like all clubs we have an overdraft facility, but we have not exceeded ours."

Walcott was sold to the Gunners in 2006 for a fee rising with staged payments to around £12m.

Crouch added: "There is a lot we would like to say in response to this story but unfortunately we have been placed in an offer period by the Stock Exchange who insist we remain in it, and whose rules therefore prevent us from talking about financial matters.

"What we can say is that Barclays continue to be supportive and we have a positive relationship.

"This kind of scaremongering, which has many inaccuracies, does the club no good at all."

Charlton defender Sam Sodje says Saturday's win at Sheffield United proves they can battle for promotion.
The loan signing from Reading grabbed the second to cap a 2-0 victory during a fierce encounter at Bramall Lane.

The Addicks are now nine points behind Championship leaders Bristol City, who visit The Valley on Tuesday.

Sodje told BBC London 94.9: "Playing the game we are one of the best sides in the league, but in this division you need to be able to battle as well."

"I was in the same position last season with West Brom so I know what it is like.

"Hopefully fans can understand that it is game by game and hopefully we can put in this kind of display every time.

"There will be ups and downs but hopefully we can get more ups."

Queens Park Rangers defender Damien Delaney insists the team can still make a late surge for the play-offs.
The R's are now eight points above the relegation zone and eight points behind the top six after Sunday's 3-0 win over Stoke City.

Delaney, 26, told BBC London 94.9: "No one is under any illusions, but as long as it's mathematically possible we'll keep trying."

QPR travel to the Ricoh Arena on Wednesday to face struggling Coventry.

Mikele Leigertwood, who hit two goals in Sunday's victory, refused to get carried away by the side's recent run. "You've got to be realistic as a few bad results and we'll be looking the other way again," he told BBC London 94.9.

"Obviously, everyone wants to get promoted and we'll be looking to get as high up the table as possible."

Sunderland boss Roy Keane has questioned referee Mike Riley's decision to rule out Michael Chopra's goal in Saturday's draw with Derby.
Television replays showed Chopra was onside before scoring and Keane was left rueing two points dropped in a critical match for the Black Cats.

"We did score, but the officials have disallowed it and I don't know why," Keane told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"He clearly thinks he's offside when he's more than level with the player

Everton manager David Moyes says Mersey rivals Liverpool remain favourites to clinch the fourth Champions League spot in the Premier League this season.
Both teams won on Sunday, leaving Everton three points ahead of Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

Moyes said: "We are doing everything we can to make a fight of it but Liverpool have to be favourites, still.

"We have been consistent but for them fourth would be expected. The bookies are right to make them favourites."

Newcastle United striker Alan Smith has urged his team-mates to start showing their mettle after Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Blackburn.
The Magpies are without a win in seven games and now sit just three points clear of the relegation zone.

Smith told BBC Radio Newcastle: "It is a time where we have to stand up and be counted, go out in front of 52,000 people and prove our worth.

"We've got to show to everyone that we want to fight for the cause."

The 27-year-old has already experienced relegation during his career, with Leeds United in 2004, and is aware of how quickly Newcastle could be sucked in if results do not improve.

Chelsea have appealed against Frank Lampard's dismissal in Saturday's 4-0 Premier League victory at West Ham.
The midfielder tangled with Luis Boa Morte and then pushed the winger after appearing to get caught by a kick.

Referee Peter Walton consulted his assistant before brandishing his red card and then booked Michael Ballack for his part in the melee that ensued.

The Football Association said that the appeal against an automatic three-game ban will be heard on 4 March.

Lampard is set to miss Chelsea's FA Cup trip to Barnsley next weekend and Premier League games against relegation strugglers Derby and Sunderland.

Everton have defended Tim Cahill after his controversial goal celebration in their 3-1 win over Portsmouth.
Cahill scored the Toffees' second goal and dedicated it to his brother Sean, who was jailed for six years in January for grievous bodily harm with intent.

The Australian midfielder crossed his wrists as if he had been handcuffed.

But Everton spokesman Ian Ross said that although some people would not "be in favour" of the celebration, it was ultimately a personal decision.

"Goal celebrations are a personal matter and up to the player to decide," said Ross.

"No-one dictates what the player can do as long as he stays within the laws of the game and as long as it doesn't result in a caution.

"He is a very articulate young man and will have weighed up the pros and cons and decided to do it because it was a personal and emotional matter.

Arsenal are boosted by the return of striker Robin van Persie as they travel to Milan for the second leg of their goalless Champions League tie.

But central defender Kolo Toure has not recovered in time from his calf injury so Philippe Senderos and William Gallas should again start at the back.

Influential midfielder Clarence Seedorf is a major doubt for AC Milan.

Midfielder Emerson is also set to miss out, although manager Carlo Ancelotti expects Brazilian Kaka to be available

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate believes an FA Cup hangover was the reason behind his side's 1-0 defeat to Reading on Saturday.
The midweek cup tie with Sheffield United went to extra-time and Southgate felt it showed in their performance.

He told BBC Tees: "Everything was flat and we looked a little bit tired.

"Inevitably you go two hours late on Wednesday night and it has a big influence on the game. Reading are fresh and it gave them an advantage."

Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard insists rumours linking him with the Chelsea job is having no effect on him or his players.

In the wake of Chelsea's recent Carling Cup final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, speculation abounded that the Stamford Bridge club were targeting the former Holland international as a replacement for manager Avram Grant.

Barcelona suffered their first defeat in 16 games when they lost 4-2 at Atletico Madrid on Saturday night, leaving them five points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

They also needed a late Xavi equaliser to earn them a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Valencia in the Nou Camp last week.

Speaking ahead of the Catalan side's Champions League second-leg clash with Celtic at the Nou Camp on Tuesday night, Rijkaard, who has been linked with Chelsea in the past, fended off questions about his future.

He said: "I am aware of the rumours but they are that - rumours - and they have not affected me or my team.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws is disappointed Alan Shearer has been linked with his job.

Two separate consortia are in takeover talks with the Owls and it has been reported former Newcastle and England striker Shearer is being lined up by one of them to become the new manager.

Laws said: "You may as well throw a few more names in. The speculation is set by you lot in the media, you set the parameters of that.

"All we can do is do our jobs the best we can. Until someone tells me my job is in jeopardy or that someone is going to take over (the club) and they are going to move me out - well they have to take the club over first before you can surmise my job is in jeopardy.

"That is what I'm disappointed in. People assume my job is in jeopardy because that is the norm. No one has taken over the club yet or made any suggestion, so I don't know why this comes along now."
