Derek Dooley, who was involved with both Sheffield United and Wednesday, has died at the age of 78.
Dooley was a legendary football figure in the city and former sports minister Richard Caborn said: "Derek epitomised everything that was good about sport.

"He was the only person I know who brought both Sheffield clubs together. He was respected by both sets of fans."

Dooley played for and managed Wednesday while he worked in several jobs off the field at United.

Dooley started his career with Lincoln before moving to Wednesday in 1947 where he became a prolific goalscorer.

His career finished in tragic fashion in 1953 when he broke his leg in a collision with Preston goalkeeper George Thompson and he eventually had to have the leg amputated.

Lita will be at Charlton for four weeks (Getty Images)
Charlton have signed former England Under-21 international Leroy Lita on a 28-day loan from Reading.
The 23-year-old striker scored 14 goals for the Royals last season but has struggled to force his way into the first team this term.

Lita was injured on the eve of the new campaign when he hurt his leg while stretching in bed.

Last week the Addicks added to their attacking options with the loan of Scott Sinclair from Chelsea.

Ipswich manager Jim Magilton has criticised Portsmouth's David Nugent after failing to sign him on loan.
Magilton got fed up of waiting for the striker, 22, to return his calls.

"Portsmouth have been very good about this but we've spoken to the player and we haven't had a response," Magilton told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"So David Nugent can go and play for whoever he wants now. The very least we deserve is a phone call or something to suggest he's not available."

Leicester City have signed winger Kelvin Etuhu on loan from Manchester City until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old Nigerian-born player will go into the Foxes squad for the game against Bristol City on Saturday.

Boss Ian Holloway thinks Etuhu's pace can boost a City squad just four points above the Championship's bottom three.

He told BBC Radio Leicester: "What he's got is pace, he's got a fresh optimism coming from Manchester City and he's still got a point to prove."

midfielder Liam Lawrence has thanked manager Tony Pulis after he was named the Championship's player of the month for February.
Lawrence told BBC Radio Stoke: "I owe the manager everything. He brought me from Sunderland when I was having a bad time and has played me regularly.

"Now I'm happy to pay him back by scoring goals and playing well."

The 26-year-old has made 37 starts for the Potters so far this season, scoring 13 goals.

He joined Stoke in 2006 from Sunderland, a club where Lawrence achieved promotion to the Premier League.

However, Lawrence says that he sees many similarities between Stoke and the Black Cats side of 2005 but it would be a greater achievement should the Potters go up.

"Sunderland have got a massive fanbase, not necessarily a better fanbase but it's certainly bigger," he said.

"To go up with the resources we've had this season would be a tremendous achievement and a great thing for the city."

Much has been made of Stoke's rise to the automatic promotion places in the Championship, but two straight defeats has left them looking over their shoulders at the likes of Watford and West Brom.

Lawrence says to now miss out on automatic promotion would be a huge disappointment.

"We've worked so hard to get into this position. The play-offs is a lottery so now we need to focus on getting that top-two finish."

Bristol City defender Jamie McCombe has said his team-mates are not feeling the strain of their Premier League promotion push.
"It feels strange," he told BBC Radio Bristol. "We don't feel any pressure at all to be honest. We're just going out there and enjoying where we are."

McCombe's 62nd-minute equaliser at Charlton on Tuesday helped keep City top of the Championship table.

"We'll see in hindsight how vital this point is to us," he added.

"To come here and keep the unbeaten run going, keep the momentum going, is fantastic and that's what we want to do.

"We just need to keep picking up the points and, hopefully, we'll keep the momentum going and that'll follow us for the remaining 10 games

Wolves defender Kevin Foley was fiercely critical of referee Colin Webster for his handling of the 2-2 draw with Southampton at Molineux.
The Saints' first equaliser on Tuesday night was a controversial penalty, given for a challenge by Foley.

He told BBC WM: "I thought the ref was going to give a dive when he blew his whistle, but he pointed to the spot instead and I was devastated.

"Their lad that went down said it was a shocking decision as well."

Gregory Vignal scored from the resulting penalty on 74 minutes but was sent off for an off-the-ball incident involving Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake with nine minutes to go.

Foley added: "I think the ref also sent their player off for nothing. He tried to even it out because he knew he'd done wrong."

Ebanks-Blake had twice given Wolves the lead on 61 and 88 minutes, but Jason Euell salavaged a point for Southampton in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

West Brom defender Paul Robinson has said the team are capable of playing just as well away from home as they do at The Hawthorns.
Albion have lost eight away games in the Championship this season but edged closer to the top two with a 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.

"Away from home we've got a lot of stick, but we're the same team as we are at home," Robinson told BBC WM.

"We like to entertain people, go and attack and take the game from there."

He added: "Obviously we're absolutely delighted that we've kept a clean sheet and we've scored a very important winner."

Scunthorpe United have signed Leeds winger Curtis Weston on loan until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old has made 11 appearances for Leeds this campaign after a summer move from Swindon.

The Iron manager Nigel Adkins had been looking to add pace to his team down the right hand side in the wake of Cleveland Taylor's move to Carlisle.

Weston will be in contention for Saturday's derby game against Hull City at the KC Stadium.

The midfielder holds the record as the youngest player to appear in an FA Cup final at the age of 17 years 119 days, turning out for Millwall against Manchester United in 2004.

Liverpool's future is still unclear after co-owner George Gillett failed to agree a deal with Dubai International Capital over his 50% share in the club.

DIC has tabled a £400m bid to take control of Liverpool from Gillett and his fellow American partner Tom Hicks.

Representatives for DIC held talks with Gillett's lawyers at a London hotel on Tuesday, with Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry also in attendance.

BBC Sport understands the talks were "cordial" but the parties remain apart.

Palermo's £19m-rated striker Amauri has revealed that Premier League side Chelsea approached his agent in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old, who has scored nine goals in Serie A this season, is set to leave in the summer, according to club president Maurizio Zamparini.

"Chelsea spoke to my agent," said the Brazilian-born player, who is planning to become an Italian citizen.

The Stamford Bridge club told BBC Sport they would not comment on speculation.

Chelsea's interest in the forward may have been tempered by the signing of Nicolas Anelka from Bolton but, with uncertainty surrounding Didier Drogba's future, the Premier League side may choose to compete in the summer for the signature of one of Serie A's hot-shots.

Amauri added: "The Premier League is a very exciting championship, where the referee rarely interrupts the flow of play.

Derby County midfielder Giles Barnes is out for the rest of the season because of a knee problem.
The 19-year-old picked up the injury in training and the club are now waiting on a second medical opinion to find out whether surgery is required.

"It's a bad blow for the lad. Hopefully, with rehab he'll be back sooner rather than later," Rams boss Paul Jewell told BBC Radio Derby.

"It wouldn't make sense for us to rush anyone back with next season in mind."

Barnes joins team-mates Claude Davis, Tyrone Mears and loanee Danny Mills in sitting out the rest of the campaign.

Midfielder Tim Cahill has apologised for his goal celebration during Everton's 3-1 win against Portsmouth.
After scoring on Sunday, Cahill crossed his wrists as if handcuffed in a gesture of support to brother Sean, who is serving a six-year jail sentence.

Cahill said: "It was a spontaneous and emotional reaction but was only intended to signify to my brother that I was thinking of him and missing him.

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas claims the Gunners are good enough to win this season's Champions League and Premier League following the win over AC Milan.
Arsenal won 2-0 to become the first English side to beat AC Milan at the San Siro as they knocked the holders out of the Champions League on Tuesday.

"We are top of the Premier League and through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League," said Fabregas, 20.

"We beat the holders at home, so why can't we win them both?"

Fabregas orchestrated a stunning Arsenal performance to dispose of Milan and the Spaniard's long-range effort gave Arsenal the lead late on.

Emmanuel Adebayor slotted in a second goal as the Gunners clinched a famous victory at a venue where Manchester United's campaign was emphatically ended by eventual champions Milan last season.

Aston Villa's young defender Stephen O'Halloran says he is staying positive about his future after suffering a potentially serious knee injury.
The 20-year-old's loan at Leeds was cut short after he damaged cruciate ligaments ahead of what would have been his debut last Saturday.

"It's early days at the moment and I'm just trying to be positive," O'Halloran told BBC WM.

"I'll probably need an operation so we'll have to take it day-by-day."
