Chelsea have accused the football authorities of handing their title rivals an advantage after it was decided to move their fixture with Everton forward by two days.
Chelsea issued a statement on their official website insisting the decision, taken for television purposes, undermines the integrity of the competition.
Chelsea's statement read: "Chelsea is extremely disappointed with the announcement today regarding the Everton fixture.

Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard is growing tired of the constant barrage of media questions surrounding midfielder Ronaldinho.
Rijkaard is apparently losing patience with the under-fire Brazilian, who is still sidelined with a mystery injury and has been spotted out at night in Barcelona on numerous occasions over the last few months.
The Dutchman has had to field questions regarding his star player's commitment ever since the forward's form dipped halfway through last season, and it looks as if he is finally tiring of defending the Brazilian _________________

Real Madrid's Bernabeu stadium will stage the 2010 Champions League final, UEFA announced on Friday.
The stadium, which was awarded 'elite status' four months ago by European football's governing body, beat off competition from London's Wembley and the Olympiastadion in Berlin to be awarded the final by UEFA's executive committee.
A statement on Real Madrid's official website read: "The award of this final reaffirms the presence of Real Madrid in the international Institutions." _________________

Sir Alex Ferguson has derided international friendly matches as "a waste of time" and "futile".
The Manchester United manager is angry at losing Darren Fletcher for six weeks, starting with the home match against Aston Villa on Saturday, after he sustained a knee-ligament injury in midweek during the latter stages of Scotland's 1-1 draw in a friendly with Croatia at Hampden Park.
It was George Burley's first match in charge but Ferguson took issue with the former Southampton manager at the length of game time Fletcher had.
"Darren should have played only 45 minutes, 60 minutes at most. But instead he was heading for a full game before he got injured," said the United boss. _________________

Chelsea's pre-season tour of Asia has hit further controversy after Amnesty International implored the Barclays Premier League club to address human-rights issues during their trip to China.
The call from the prominent international lobby group comes on the same day as the Malaysian Football Association were forced to guarantee that manager Avram Grant and defender Tal Ben Haim would be allowed into the south-east Asian country, despite its refusal to recognise Israel. _________________

Brazil legend Romario has announced his retirement from football after 27 years in the professional game.
The 42-year-old's last appearance was for Vasco da Gama against Internacional in November and soon after he was banned for four months after testing positive for a prohibited substance, which he claimed was in his medication for hair loss.
The former PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona and Valencia forward told O Dia newspaper: "I am not going to play any more. I have already stopped. I am out of shape.
"My last game was a long time ago and it is over for me." _________________

Emanuel Pogatetz believes it is "human nature" for referees to give more decisions in favour of the biggest clubs as Middlesbrough prepare for a Barclays Premier League double-header against the division's current leading two clubs.
The Austrian believes the 'Big Four' get more favourable decisions at their home stadiums simply because referees are more acutely aware of the repercussions of high-profile errors. _________________

Avram Grant still believes Arsenal remain a title threat despite Chelsea's recent 2-1 victory over the Gunners at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea face Middlesbrough at home on Sunday hoping to cement their position behind leaders Manchester United at the top of the table - but Grant is not expecting an easy ride with just seven games remaining.
His preparations have been obstructed by an injury to John Terry and an illness to his England team-mate Frank Lampard. _________________

Gary Caldwell insists Celtic must ignore the hype and the prophets of doom and focus on the fact they are now nine games from glory.
They head to Ibrox for a lunchtime showdown with Rangers on Saturday which could see them slide six points adrift of their Old Firm rivals, who already have the advantage of a game in hand.
Rangers will be hoping to take a giant step towards ending Celtic's two-year reign as Scottish champions. _________________

Real Betis will face Barcelona at their Ruiz de Lopera stadium on Saturday after the Spanish Sporting Disciplinary Committee suspended their two-match stadium ban.
Earlier on Friday, the Spanish FA (RFEF) announced that the game had to be played in Atletico Madrid's Vicente Calderon stadium after the club lost their appeal against the punishment.
Following the decision Betis took their appeal to the Spanish Sporting Disciplinary Committee. They have agreed to suspend the ban until after the game with Barca in order to avoid an exodus of Betis fans from Seville to Madrid.
Betis had previously refused to change venue for the game, claiming there was too little time to arrange the move.
The Andalusian club had already started selling tickets to the match for their Ruiz de Lopera stadium.
Betis received a two-game stadium ban and a 9,000 euro fine after a fan threw a bottle at Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Armando Ribeiro during a Primera Liga clash in Seville on March 15. _________________

Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro is one of four Peru players who have been banned from the national team for 18 months after they held a party following the 1-1 draw against Brazil in a World Cup qualifier in November.
Pizarro, PSV Eindhoven's Jefferson Farfan, Almeria defender Santiago Acasiete and Steaua Bucharest forward Andres Mendoza have also each been handed a £10,000 fine in addition to the suspension.
The Peruvian FA justice committee ruled the ban could start from the time of the offence, meaning the players can return to represent their country in May 2009. _________________

Newcastle striker Michael Owen will have no fears about returning to the scene where his injury problems of recent years began.
The 28-year-old will run out at White Hart Lane for Sunday's Premier League clash with Tottenham for the first time since he fractured his metatarsal there on December 31, 2005.
Owen was injured in a collision with England team-mate Paul Robinson and spent five months on the sidelines as he battled his way back to fitness just in time for the following summer's World Cup finals. _________________

Bolton manager Gary Megson admits his players are hurting mentally and physically following their slide into the Premier League relegation zone.
The Trotters, promoted to the top flight under Sam Allardyce in 2001, have claimed top-eight finishes in each of the past four seasons but their current campaign threatens to end in disaster.
Sammy Lee was unseated last October after just 171 days in charge and, although Megson steadied the ship and delivered an impressive UEFA Cup run, the outlook is bleak at present. _________________

Wigan manager Steve Bruce believes the last week has shown his side they are still very much in the battle for top-flight survival.
The Latics visit Portsmouth tomorrow hoping to bounce back from a disappointing defeat at Blackburn and get their bid to remain in the Barclays Premier League back on track.
Bruce's men had put together a four-match unbeaten run to climb to 12th and go six points clear of the drop zone.
But while Wigan suffered a setback at Ewood Park, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Reading and Sunderland all won to drag them back into the relegation fight. _________________

Sven-Goran Eriksson believes his Manchester City team are learning a valuable lesson in Barclays Premier League style as they head into another fixture against relegation strugglers.
Ninth-placed City, who drew 0-0 at Bolton last weekend, are braced for a second scrap when they take on a Birmingham side one place and one point above the drop zone.
With so many recent arrivals to English football in their ranks, Eriksson believes these kind of fixtures will teach his team something for next season.
Brazilians Elano and Geovanni, Bulgaria's Martin Petrov and Swiss midfielder Gelson Fernandes are among those in their maiden seasons. _________________
